The Process

The B-Word: Budget

Budgeting can be one of the most difficult things to identify, discuss, and stick to, but it is vital to the success of your project and your overall satisfaction with the process.

Define Your Project

Understand and clarify your expectations on paper before you begin the process of choosing designers or remodelers. Be sure that you know what you want to have done, and that you and your significant other (if applicable) are on the same page.

Identify Your Style

Need help wading through the overwhelming options out before you? Looking through magazines is great, but it’s also important to try to learn the standard words used to describe different aspects of residential design. This helps you to know what is being referred to throughout the project and to understand what you are receiving in your design.

  1. What do I need to identify?
  2. Make it easy for me.

Research Research Research.

Do your research ahead of time, but don’t get too caught up in it. Look through local magazines and find the sources used in featured projects you love. Visit websites like those provided by the:

  1. National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA)
  2. Home Builders Association (HBA)
  3. National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI)
